Opt Out Option

If you do not want to take advantage of the SIU myTextbooks program, you have the opportunity to opt out. You will need to complete the opt-out process for every semester individually, and opting out applies to all of your courses for that term.
Students must opt out on or before the last day of the add/drop period. If no action is taken, you will automatically remain enrolled in the myTextbooks program and be charged for the materials. The opt-out opportunity will be available each semester, allowing you to make the choice that best fits your needs.
Instructions to opt out:
- An opt-out email will be sent to every student's email address.
- Students should follow the link and instructions in the opt-out email.
- Sign in to the portal. If this is the first time logging into the portal, use the instructions in the email to create your account using your student email address.
- Click the opt-out button listed in the portal by their name and the courses they enrolled in. Students who opt out are choosing to opt out of the program for all of their courses, you cannot opt out for only a few courses*.
*Nursing students can opt out at the course level. Check back for more details. - Students who opt out can opt back into the program within the opt out period.
- An email confirmation will be sent when the opt out is finalized.
- If the student has physical material in their possession or on order for the program, a pop-up will show up that lists the titles (posting cancelled or refund action required).
- Students who opt out must return all required physical course materials to the University Bookstore to finalize the opt-out and receive their refund.
