Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

SIU embraces a unique tradition of access and opportunity, inclusive excellence, innovation in research and creativity, and outstanding teaching focused on nurturing student success. As a nationally ranked public research university and regional economic catalyst, we create and exchange knowledge to shape future leaders, improve our communities, and transform lives. SIU's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion continues these values and missions as part of its mission and programming. The Office provides services to ALL students, regardless of race, national origin, sex, gender, or other protected status.

Why We're Here

We are committed to creating an environment where every student, faculty, and staff member feels valued and supported. By addressing systemic inequalities and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, we strive to enhance the educational experience and cultivate a more just and inclusive university community.

Initiatives

Our initiatives include cultural competency workshops, mentorship programs, diversity training, and inclusive policy development. We collaborate with various campus departments and student organizations to host events, provide resources, and support initiatives that advance our mission of fostering a diverse and inclusive environment at SIU.
